The Central Highlands
The Central Highlands
Far from mass tourism, the Central Highlands offer an authentic, rural Vietnam: ethnic minorities, coffee plantations, forests and waterfalls.
Located in the southern part of the Truong Son Annamite Range, the Central Highlands comprise the provinces of Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Gia Lai and Kon Tum. This fertile region of volcanic origin, crossed by rivers and dotted with lakes, is home to numerous ethnic minorities who live primarily from agriculture and some livestock farming. Though the region suffered from Agent Orange spraying by the American military, it has retained all its vitality with vast coffee plantations, deep forests, waterfalls, and ethnic groups—some of whose families continue to raise elephants.
