Dalat Flower Gardens
On the banks of Xuan Huong Lake, Dalat's flower park brings together roses, orchids and mimosas in a landscaped garden created in 1966 and restored in 1986.
Dalat's flower gardens bring together, on the banks of Xuan Huong Lake, a collection of ornamental plants representative of the temperate climate of Vietnam's central highlands. Roses, hydrangeas, orchids and mimosas grow alongside imported species in a landscaped park that has become one of the city's landmarks.
Why visit Dalat's gardens
Located at approximately 1,500 meters altitude, Dalat enjoys a cool climate that allows the cultivation of flowers rarely seen elsewhere in Vietnam. The flower park concentrates this botanical specificity across several landscaped hectares, with flower beds renewed throughout the seasons and several themed zones. The visit combines botanical interest, scenic strolls and views over the lake, making it a worthwhile stop for understanding the distinctive character of this mountain city.
History of the flower park
The garden was created in 1966 under the name Bich Cau Flower Garden. It originally served as a space for preserving local flora and as a promenade for residents. After a period of neglect, restoration work began in the 1980s, before reopening in 1986 as the city's official flower garden. Since then, the collections have expanded and the park regularly hosts Dalat's biennial flower festival.
What to see in the park
Several zones structure the visit and deserve your time.
- The botanical greenhouse: located on the right side of the park, it houses mimosas, chrysanthemums, roses and a selection of cacti, including specimens presented as African cacti.
- Outdoor flower beds: orchids, roses and hydrangeas occupy most of the borders, with compositions renewed according to flowering seasons.
- The sculpture zone: installed on a hillside near the entrance, it offers an overview of the park, the Bich Cau café and Xuan Huong Lake below.
- Relaxation areas: central fountain, cafeteria and shaded benches allow you to break up your visit with a pause.
Allow approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to tour the different zones at a leisurely pace.
When to visit
The most favorable period runs from December to March. Dalat's climate is then dry and cool, and the majority of species are in bloom. The biennial flower festival also takes place during this season, generally between late December and early January in even years. Outside this window, the park remains pleasant but the flower beds are less lush.
Practical information
The park is located at 2 Tran Nhan Tong Street, in Dalat's eighth district, approximately 2 km from downtown. It is open daily during daytime hours, from morning to late afternoon. Admission is reasonably priced, with reductions for children. Bring sturdy walking shoes: the terrain is hilly and some areas involve uphill sections.
How to get there
From Dalat's city center, several options are available:
- On foot: approximately 25 to 30 minutes from the central market along Xuan Huong Lake, pleasant in dry weather.
- By taxi or rideshare: a short journey (5 to 10 minutes) at reasonable rates, convenient in rainy conditions.
- By motorcycle: parking is available at the entrance for two-wheelers.
What to see nearby
The park fits easily into a day of sightseeing in Dalat. Xuan Huong Lake, just opposite, is ideal for a complementary stroll, and Dalat's central market remains within walking distance. To extend your botanical experience in Vietnam, the botanical garden and zoo in Ho Chi Minh City offers a more tropical approach. Nature lovers can then move on to Buu Long Mountain or Ba Den Mountain, two emblematic peaks in the country's south.
